Welcome to my Art Blog! My name is Genesis Bryan. I am a junior
at Georgia Southern University (GO EAGLES!), majoring in Political Science with
dual minors in International Studies and Philosophy. I am an only child,
and extremely close to my mother and aunties. My interest usually
fall under the 'geek' portion of my life. I am a firm believer
that to know your future, you must learn/ understand your past;
which makes me history nerd. I enjoy learning about things from the
past and how they shape the world today. I'm also a big kid at heart! I
love Disney movies and collectable Barbie dolls, and also stuffed
animals! Those dolls and stuffed animals are considered my babies and
I haven't traveled far without them before, so this trip
will definitely be different for me. However, I think that
is where my 'geek-ness' ends on the extreme scale. Other hobbies of mine
are dancing, tennis, kickboxing, and making jewelry. Making
different pieces of jewelry has become a huge past time for me recently so
I am hoping that while in Paris I will get some more inspiration
for my pieces.
But I am, of course, also in Paris to study abroad. I choose
to study abroad because it has always been part of my plans for college. Study
abroad allows me to go beyond my classroom to take classes that I most likely
would not have enjoyed as much otherwise. With liking to learn about
history that also is a reason behind choosing to study abroad, because there
is so much history that Europe has to offer, and going to the physical
locations is an amazing opportunity. Now, I chose Paris, because
it is a life goal to be able to visit France, and also Paris has some of
the most beautiful art and architecture. France has kept its
historical feel, while still being able to advance with the world and I am
excited to experience that. But I am also doing study abroad for my family. I
am not the first in my family to go to college, but I am the first to take
advantage of this type of opportunity. And I'm proud that I am leading the
way for my younger family members to know that when you do what you need
to do, opportunities such as being able to go overseas becomes
available. Also, this is the first step in me taking a full semester
abroad. The goal is to do a semester in England, and eventually move there
to complete law school. My plans for the future are big, and I feel
that expanding myself will help get me there.
Even though I am excited about this new adventure, I'm still
nervous (more so anxious) about traveling to another country for five weeks. My
first anxiety is with the plane ride. I have traveled out of the country
before, but never for the long amount of time, especially not when majority of
that time will be over a ocean. Next, although I am excited about being in
a historical city, not being fluent in the language is a concern of mine. I am
studying some basic phrases to be able to get around, but I would
prefer to be able to fully enjoy the city and people by knowing the language.
I'm also concerned about not having any central air in the rooms! I know that
doesn't seem as much of a problem, but I need cool air accessible to me. So
that is a major expense that I'm going to have, which is another issue in
itself. But I am also extremely excited about being in Paris for five weeks.
I'm excited about going to Notre Dame mostly because one of my favorite movies
as child was The Hunchback of Notre Dame. I'm also excited
about shopping in the fashion capital; and also being able to experience
true Parisian culture. There are preconceived notions about the
French that I am curious to see for myself. I have always been fascinated by
the culture and with five weeks I am hoping to have a new understanding on the
French.
